Monica BONVICINI at OGR Turin (until Feb 9th, 2020)

The new installation by Monica Bonvicini, specifically conceived for OGR on the occasion of Artissima 2019, continues her investigation into the relationships between architecture, power and gender issues, the right to space, dynamics of control and surveillance.

Bonvicini has started exhibiting her works internationally in the 1990s, with solo and group exhibitions in many of the most important artistic institutions and receiving important awards, including the Leone d’Oro at the Venice Biennale. Bonvicini’s works are dry and direct but imbued with multiple historical, political and social references. Her works are always critically linked to the places in which they are exposed and are often interested in the ambiguity of language, problematizing the role of the spectator, and the limits, possibilities and contradictions linked to the idea of freedom.

OGR- Officine Grandi Riparazioni represents one of the most important examples of nineteenth-century industrial architecture in Turin.

Built between 1885 and 1895, and used for a century for the maintenance of trains, the H-shaped building was left in a state of abandonment and degradation after the closure in the nineties. In 2013,the CRT Foundation acquired the building saving it from destruction, and after a thousand days of work, on 30th of September 2017, OGR was returned to the city: from former workshops for repairing trains to new workshops of contemporary culture, of innovation and acceleration of business with an international vocation.
