Tej Chauhan presents SOFT POWER at London Designjunction

As part of the annual London Design Festival, industrial designer Tej Chauhan, will present SOFT POWER, an installation showcasing his emotive design approach at leading contemporary design show designjunction (20-23 September).

Positioned in the raw and industrial Bargehouse venue, SOFT POWER will highlight a selection of the designer's works which range from technology to homeware and celebrate the everyday.

The installation will be formed of three islands, designed by Tej Chauhan’s studio and built by HUX joinery. Each will showcase past, current andfuture projects, presenting his approach to visual language - soft and democratically appealing yet striking and impactful. Designing to inspire broad audiences, the installation demonstrates how the designer’s emotive style and efficient production techniques create value and meaningful differentiation for brands.

The show will feature the UK debut of Moby, Chauhan’s new design for Artifort. Created using the designer’s user-experience approach, Moby is the pouffe, reimagined. A versatile accessory for home or work, it combines character and purpose. Easy to move around with a grip that doubles as a parking space for small items, Moby is informal social seating for the way we live now.

Also debuting at designjunction is Blaise, a new desk designed for made.com. Created for the home office space, the desk features a well-considered address to cable management through a simple physical gesture.

As part of the studio’s ongoing relationship with communications specialist SGW, Tej Chauhan will reveal the latest collaboration at SOFT POWER. Past consumer technology projects on display include the Hudl2 tablet designed for Tesco, T301 phone for Motorola, Autographer camera for OMG, Colombo Two phone for SGW and HAL TV for Humax.

Before setting up his studio in 2005, Tej Chauhan designed some of the most memorable handsets at Nokia as a senior designer, and worked for other brands such as fashion designer Michiko Koshino, British Airways and The Body Shop.

Chauhan believes the things that surround us have the power to affect our feelings and wellbeing. His natural style is a softer, friendlier approach, with strategic use of colour to elicit joy and create uplifting experiences. SOFT POWER will be a journey through Tej Chauhan’s past, current and future creations.
