Sé releases new still life photography series
Sé’s acclaimed furniture features in a new series of startling still-life photographs.
Showcasing pieces from the European design brand’s three collections, the images play with form, light, composition and allusion. There’s a sense of film noir, a hint of surrealism and as ever with Sé, each item exudes a sense of sheer character.
The images reveal some startling juxtapositions. Flowers, food and sculptures sit unexpectedly upon or beside Sé furniture as if in a dream: sometimes creating textural echoes and unpredictable friendships; otherwise initiating a quiet, meaningful conversation between forms.
The series has another, intriguing aspect – that each image reflects upon the role of furniture itself. A chair can be a place to eat, to socialise, to read or simply contemplate the world. Each photograph carries an oblique suggestion of those roles, while subverting our expectations.
In all the photographs, a sense of chiaroscuro pervades: a heady interplay between light and shade. This brings out the playful curvaceousness, rich colour palette and unrivalled craftsmanship that Sé is now recognised for in the luxury furniture sector.
Proposing beauty and drama as well as usefulness, these photographs draw out the cinematic soul that lies at the core of Sé.
