Gufram and their inexhaustible desire to experiment, meets the design style of New York duo Snarkitecture

The research of the studio’s founders, Daniel Arsham and Alex Mustonen, explores the boundaries between art and architecture with the same curiosity as the first radical Italian designers of the '60s and ‘70s.

It is from this affinity that Broken Mirror was born, a limited edition mirror in 77 pieces that doesn’t abandon its function, but it enriches and transforms it, becoming a work of art and going beyond the boundaries of direct correspondence between form and function.

The reflective surface is surrounded by a frame made of soft polyurethane – directly relying on the material Gufram masters - which takes the form of a breach in the wall, a crack that reflects the space that surrounds it, but at the same time creates an alienating optical effect, as if the room is opened to the outside world or to another room.

Broken Mirror is a project that plays ironically with the ambiguity by relying on the concept of "soft/not soft", in addition to highlighting the main characteristic of the mirror, which is to reflect the world in front of it but also to create a new and parallel one.

The polyurethane that frames the mirror is made entirely by hand, so every Black Mirror is slightly different, and therefore unique. The effect similar to the texture of the wall is created using Guflac, a special patented paint from Gufram that is spread entirely by hand, enabling the polyurethane to maintain its elasticity, allowing for a unique aesthetic experimentation.
