Louis Poulsen, world-renowned Danish lighting brand, announces their collaboration with Danish-Icelandic artist, Olafur Eliasson on a new, large-scale pendant light.
The product will be revealed for the first time at Milan Design Week 2019. Using geometry to shape light, this collaboration reinforces Louis Poulsen and Eliasson’s shared idea that good light= good life. The light, designed by Olafur Eliasson, is composed of two contrasting geometric shapes, a rigid outer frame and a soft, layered interior. Its complex shape is perceived differently depending on where the observer stands, creating endless interpretations and perspectives that make the light come to life. “Light has been central to my artistic practice for over twenty-five years. I keep returning to it and its many qualities as a source of inspiration, in my artworks and in my solar-powered lamps. Light shapes everything; it determines what we do and how we do it. Quality lighting is essential to our lives. A concern for the emotional and
physical effects of lighting is at the core of the lamp that I have conceived for Louis Poulsen. It is my hope that this geometric sculpture will bring new light to your daily life.” Olafur Eliasson, artist. “At Louis Poulsen we pride ourselves on our heritage, history and good design. We strive not just to design lamps, but to shape light and create atmospheres that make people feel good. This collaboration with Olafur Eliasson celebrates 145 years of good light, and results in an extremely refined piece of design that we believe will join the ranks of our other iconic products.” Søren Mygind Eskildsen, CEO of Louis Poulsen.
The product will be exhibited at Salone Del Mobile: Tuesday April 9th - Sunday April 14th: 8.30-19.00 Milan Fairgrounds, Rho (Milan)
